Faculty Learning Community

Each of the eight (8) EnACT campuses established a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) focused on Universal Design for Learning. In addition, each of the seven (7) EnACT~PTD campuses has established a FLC. Each FLC is composed of five to seven “EnACT Faculty” members committed to working together to reflect on their teaching and providing critical feedback to each other as to infusing UDL within their courses. Training in the structure and format of the FLC is offered via a UDL workshop and ongoing support for each FLC is provided by the campus-based Community of Practice and campus leadership representatives. To find out more about what a Faculty Learning Community is, explore the FLC video case story.

The goals for EnACT~PTD Faculty Learning Communities are to:

  • Create a professional learning community
  • Make teaching practice explicit by "talking about teaching"
  • Help faculty work collaboratively in democratic and reflective communities
  • Establish a foundation for sustained professional development based on a spirit of inquiry
  • Provide a context to understand our teaching practices and a forum to consider our assumptions and beliefs about teaching and learning

Each EnACT~PTD faculty member participates in:

  • Universal Design for Learning workshops
  • FLC
  • Webcasts and seminars related to UDL and Accessibilty

As a result of these professional development experiences, FLC members implement UDL and accessibility technology into their syllabus and classroom teaching during the semester following their training. FLC faculty are also encouraged to participate in the development of an Accessible Instructional Media resource.
